Biography

Biography and Philosophy

My name is Jasmine Gladney and I am the Owner and Educator for Bright Scholars University. I have 20 years of experience in the education and child development field. I have homeschooled, taught in after school programs, tutored grades preschool through 12th grade, taught at preschools, and ran several youth programs. I am passionate about education and my students’ ability to master difficult concepts. I have earned a few degrees and certificates listed below. Additionally, I have completed all teaching credential coursework and one semester of student teaching, however, I decided not to pursue the remaining requirements. I felt at the time, I did not want my teaching experience and creativity to be limited. Although classroom teaching allows for accommodations and modifications, it often reduces a teacher’s ability to individualize their students’ education for mastery of concepts and places all students on the same level based on their age and grade level.

While I believe in traditional concepts for learning, I equally believe in innovation, creativity, and mastery. Students should not be held back waiting on peers to advance and students should not advance if they have not mastered the foundational building blocks. I am a firm believer in students having a solid foundation in the basics of reading, writing, and mathematics. Moreover, I believe that certain concepts if presented in a developmentally appropriate way for a ready student, can actually benefit a young learner for the future mastery of difficult concepts. I am a firm believer in the power of prayer, positive thinking, and daily affirmations. I believe in teamwork between myself, the parents, and the students. Finally, if the students are not having fun, then learning will be difficult. My program will not be right for every student and every student will not be right for my program. I strongly believe that the right students will come to this program and that this program will be right for those students.

Code of Conduct

Bright Scholars University Code of Conduct

  • Each student must have a quiet place to learn and study when engaging in the online participation portion of the program.
  • Online assignments must be submitted no later than Saturday 12am PST for the week it is assigned.
  • Assignments with specific dates must be postmarked or received on or before the due date.
  • Meetings marked required must be attended, those marked optional can be attended live or watched later.
  • Buddy meetings and small group meetings are required but the dates and times are set by parents and students in the group.
  • Students must not be disturbed or interrupted during online instruction because all students must be focused, and it helps the teacher keep instruction flowing smoothly. Only emergencies are considered excusable. (Parents note: even if something your child is doing is bothering you or you may consider a distraction, allow the teacher to handle it just as if the child was in the classroom at a brick and mortar school)
  • All background noise must be eliminated by muting or being in a different room that is quiet.
  • Parents and students must be proactive and involved with the success of their child by working alongside as a team with the teacher. The goal is to create confident, intelligent, independent learners and parents must be able to trust in the teacher’s methods. (i.e. please don’t give the child the answers no matter how frustrating it is for them or you but instead direct them back to the skills needed to solve the problem; don’t try to teach them something while they are being instructed in class because it can cause confusion and the child will focus more on you than the teacher)
  • Students must be actively engaged each week both online and offline with lectures, learning apps, workbooks, projects, research, and field trips.
  • Internet should be high speed and or plugged directly into the modem to avoid as much glitching and interruption as possible. However, based on the volume of people that will be using the platform and internet, it is expected that we will get some disruption. We will then resort to other means of communication.
  • Devices used for the online session should be up-to-date, able to handle the duration of the online session, and the requirements for completing assignments.

Note: Not every code of conduct applies to every class or students who are being tutored or every situation. However, these are the basic guidelines that will make our online learning experience successful. More details will be sent once you sign a contract.
